Acts 17:22-31
Round Table Reflection

So Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: “Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: To the unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’ Being then God's offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man. The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”

Round Table Discussion

1. What is the difference between religiosity and spiritual pneuma?

2. Do you believe every person was perfectly placed where they could best seek God? Why or why not?

3. How does the idea and reality of God relate to our "temple"
church buildings?

4. How does Christ's resurrection inform the way we live life and do church?

Pneuma (πνεῦμα) is an ancient Greek word for "breath", and in a religious context for "spirit" or "soul".

What's Strategy?

Did you notice during the COVID-19 crisis of 2020 that those nations which were strategically prepared for the virus had lower rates of sickness and death than those who had made inadequate provisions?
Strategy means putting in place—in advance—the best set of plans and actions needed to accomplish mission. By this definition, strategy isn’t just a set of strategic plans. It’s carrying out those plans to actually achieve mission.

Biblical Examples

Being strategic is characteristic of every group of people in the Bible who have enjoyed successful conquests. Every single one.
Although God directed the movements of the ancient Hebrews, He expected them to do their part, which included sending out spies to do a needs assessment before battle. People in Scripture on a mission included the Israelites and their conquest of the land of Canaan; Gideon and his 300 soldiers; Joshua and the battle of Jericho; the design and construction of the sanctuary; and of course, Nehemiah building Jerusalem’s walls.

Even the plan of salvation, created before the
foundation of the world, is a grand strategic plan.
         (Ephesians 1:4)
